The fourth annual Sri Chinmoy Heart-Garden Two-Mile Race will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The location is the Sri Chinmoy Heart-Garden at the north end of Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. There is no entry fee and the event will take place rain or shine.

The Heart-Garden was dedicated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to Sri Chinmoy, the renowned peace philosopher, author, composer, artist, humanitarian and athlete, on October 11, 2006. Exactly one year later Sri Chinmoy passed away, leaving a vibrant legacy of world service and creativity in many fields. In celebration of his life, and his love of running, the international Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team inaugurated the Heart-Garden Two-Mile Race in October 2009, and it is now an annual event drawing participants from many countries. The race is part of a week of observances, including a Peace Concert at 7:00 the same evening at All Souls Church in Manhattan. For additional information regarding the Peace Concert please call 212-380-8153 or visit our website at www.nycmeditation.org.

During the dedication of the Heart-Garden Sri Chinmoy said, “At every moment I try to see a most beautiful garden, not only inside my heart, but inside each and every human being. I will try to be of service to all those who enjoy walking, jogging and running here. My students and I will give them our devoted service, lovingly, soulfully and gratefully.”

The Unveiling of the World Peace Dreamer Statue (London, England)

On 28 July three great Olympians, nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, Kenyan marathon champion and peace advocate Tegla Loroupe and Russian Olympic gold medalist Tatyana Lebedeva donated a statue entitled World Peace Dreamer to London, England.

The life-sized statue depicts the founder of the World Harmony Run, Sri Chinmoy, holding aloft the Peace Torch that runners have been carrying around the globe for the past 25 years, through over 100 nations, on a mission of peace and harmony.

“It is our hope that amidst all the excitement and fast pace of Olympic competition, this statue will remind us of the highest ideals of the Olympic Games : peace and friendship between all nations. Sri Chinmoy was my mentor for more than thirty years – and the most peaceful person I have ever known”. Carl Lewis
