Self-Transcendence Swim-Run at Lake Welch 2010


     

THE EVENT:

The 2nd Annual Self-Transcendence Swim/Run in Harriman State Park in upstate New York consists of a 1 km swim at Lake Welch Beach and a 10 km run within the beach complex, with part of the run following the shores of Lake Welch. Join us at Lake Welch Beach on Sunday, September 12th, 2010 for a short and friendly race you will absolutely love. Participants of all fitness levels welcome. Sponsored by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in conjunction with the NYS-OPRHP Parks System. Registration is from 8:15 am to 9:30 am on race day and the start of the race is at 10:00 am.

ABOUT SRI CHINMOY:

From 1964 to 2007, spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy participated in a number of athletic activities, among these marathon and ultramarathon running as a component of his philosophy of self-transcendence. In 1976, in close collaboration with his students, he founded the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. Since then, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team has organized marathons, ultramarathons, triathlons and shorter distance races in over 26 countries around the world.

INDIVIDUALS

  • Official entries: The best option is to mail us your entry form and payment ($60 by check or money order) by 31 August 2010. If you enter this way ('official entry') you will be guaranteed a spot and a free t-shirt and you'll save $10. You still have to pick up your number and sign a waiver on race day - sometime between 8:15 am and 9:30 am.
  • Day-of-Race entries: If you're more the spontaneous type you are also welcome to just show up on the morning of the race and enter then but you'll have to pay a bit more ($70 cash, check or money order) and you won't get a free t-shirt (but you can buy one if there are enough left over). Race day entries open at 8:15 am and close 30 minutes before the race at 9:30 am.

RELAY TEAMS (one swimmer and one runner)

  • Official entries: Each of you should fill out a separate entry form and then mail the two entry forms in one envelope with one check ($80 check or money order) by 31 August 2010.  Please remember to indicate whether you are the swimmer or runner on your respective entry form. If you enter this way ('official entry') you will be guaranteed a spot and free t-shirts and you'll save $10. You still have to pick up your number and both of you will have to sign waivers on race day - sometime between 8:15 am and 9:30 am.

USAT MEMBERS

Upon presentation of a valid USAT member ID card and photo ID, pre-registered USAT members will recieve a $10 refund on race day and day-of-race entrants will recieve a $10 discount. Relay teams receive a $10 refund/discount for each participant who shows valid ID ($20 maximum refund/discount per relay team).

REFUNDS

If it turns out you can't make it to the race and you've already mailed in your registration, refunds of your entry fee minus a $5.00 processing fee will be made if withdrawal is received in writing or by e-mail by 31 August 2010.

You are not allowed to transfer your entry to another person.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

From New York, Westchester, or Connecticut: take I-87/I-287 over the Tappan zee Bridge or I-95 over the George Washington Bridge to Palisades Parkway North: Take exit 16 (exit on left). After exit take left fork onto Lake Welch Drive- drive ½ mile- take park entrance on left - follow signs for Lake Welch (see map)

From New Jersey: Take Palisades Parkway North to exit 16 (exit on left). After exit take left fork onto Lake Welch Drive- drive ½ mile- take park entrance on left- follow signs for Lake Welch (see map)

From North of Harriman: Take I-87 South to exit 16. Route 6 East to the Palisades Interstate Parkway South to exit 16. After exit take left fork onto Lake Welch Drive- drive ½ mile- take park entrance on left- follow signs for Lake Welch (see map)
