About the author:

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

Mahasatya Janczak reached 2000 miles today in 33+03:00:32 the first time he did the double kilo. He became only the 2nd Polish athlete to do so - after finishing the epic distance he modestly stated “it’s a nice feeling”

About seven hours later, Harita Davies reached 2000 miles in 33+10:21:32. This was Harita’s fourth time to the 2000-mile mark. Lo Wei-Ming took the day leader honours with 75.7 miles, his sixth straight Day Honor. Milan Javornicky moved into seventh place overall with a 60.9 mile day.

After 33 days on the road in the 3100-mile race, the runners begin their October push to the final totals, with 19 days remaining. Lo Wei-Ming led the day today with 74.0 miles.

The top five runners are running ahead of the 59.7 mile daily average needed to finish. But, both Harita Davies and Nina Huang-Lan Yang are in striking distance, should favourable circusmtances appear.

Wei Ming Lo is gaining strength and inspiration as the race progresses. After 32 days of non-stop running, he managed an incredible 77 miles yesterday. First time entrant Mahasatya Janczak has also had a good race. Yesteday he passed the 3,100 km mark and now he just needs to convert it into 3,100 miles. Tsai Wen-Ya reached her 54th birthday this morning, and maintained her 68.6 mile day for two in a row. The rain has disappeared for the next several days, so mile totals should increase. 20 days remain before the longest race takes a long break.

But he remains on track. Every runner is making progress both inner and outer, inspiring those who watch from around the world.

The race was clobbered last night with intense rain, then in the middle of the morning today the amount of rain equaled between six and eight inches. The top three runners again led the push to gain as many laps as possible. No surprise, but Wai-Ming Lo led everybody today. He reached an amazing 75.1 miles, as well as reaching the 2000-mile mark, getting there in 30 days+14:58:55.

Wei Ming passes 2,000 Miles

It was not his best mark, but he was only six hours slower than his best. He had another stack of fast running laps to gain the Day Leader again.

Harita Davies reaches 1,800 Miles in the pouring rain.

The overcast and cloudy skies gave the runners a chance to put up some good numbers, but the dark skies led to a flow of rain, which lasted until midnight.  Tsai Wen-Ya went past the 2000 mile mark in a new women’s total- 29 days +12:25:21 before the rain started to fall. She passed the former leader Kaneenika Janakova, who had created the best in 2016. The Slovakian had led all women in 31 days+05:54:14. Wei-Ming Lo was again the Day leader, as he reached 71.3 miles. He passed the 3000km early in the day- his third time to reach that fine distance.

28 September

About the author:

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

The top three runners today showed their outer and inner strength. Men’s Leader Andrea Marcato and Women's leader Tsai Wen-Ya both touched 130 laps (71.3 miles), though Wen-Ya went home an hour ahead of Andrea. The third savant of the group- Wei-Ming Lo- reached 135 laps- 74.0 miles today. He thrilled the counters and officials, running seven or eight laps in five minutes, plus ten or 20 seconds. He was smooth as a daisy for several hours this afternoon and evening - a superb display from the 59-year–old athlete. The secret reason for the speed display- Wei-Ming was impressed with Wen-Ya and her brilliant race so far. Today, Wen-Ya passed 1900 miles in a new women’s total of 28 days+04:50:07. She eclipsed the effort of Kaneenika Janakova- the current all-time record holder - who had run 30 days+03:05:35 in the summer of 2017.

The pleasant weather and no rain allowed the runners to do their best.

Andrea Marcato, 41. from Italy, but living in Zurich, Switzerland went past the 2000 Mile mark, reaching the distance in 27 days+11:45:44. He is fourth fastest overall, and moving well throughout the colder, windy post-summer weather.

Tsai Wen-Ya, 53, from Taiwan and a great new long-distance athlete, captured the fastest female performance of 3000km in history. Her Record time was 27 days + 13:20:02. She bettered the previous effort from Kaneenika Janakova of Slovakia in 2017, which was 29 days + 03:10:18.

Andrea Marcato has run over 70 miles in six of the last seven days, and tomorrow he should reach the 2000-mile mark. This will be his fourth time to reach this significant landmark. He has gone past 70 miles in 24 days of the total 27 days of the race.

25 September

About the author:

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

Today Andrea Marcato went past 3000km for the fourth time in his multiday running career. His time was 25:14:00:57- which was only 6 minutes and six seconds slower than his best time set in 2022. If you consider the five days of 92-95 degree heat, and over two days of Tropical rainstorms and strong winds, Andrea indeed is a powerful runner, untouched by nature's tests so far.

Earlier this morning, Tsai Wen-Ya reached the 1700 mile mark, her second place overall was highlighted by the time of 25 days 05:43:59. The previous women’s best time was 27:00:38:06, placed by American record holder Suprabha  Beckjord. That was performed in 1998.

Halfway Point

Nina Huang-Lan Yang passes halfway point just before the end of day 26

The end of day 26 is the halfway point in the race of 52 days. So far seven runners have passed the half-way mileage. Milan and Jason should hopefully pass this milestone today.

About the author:

The rains came and the winds started bothering things. But the runners maintained their equilibrium and ran as well as they could. Andrea Marcato led the way with 67.5 miles. Sunday he most likely will reach 3000 km and might pass his personal best if he grabs it before 7:54 pm. Tsai Wen-Ya could pass the women's 1700 mile record, set in 1998 by Suprabha Beckjord, in a time of 27 days+00:38:06. Wen-Ya ran nearly 67 miles yesterday, so rain does not seem to slow her at all.

Today Mahasatya ran past 1500 miles - the first time he had ever run this far in his career and has moved into fifth place overall.

As expected, Tsai Wen-Ya passed a mark of 2500km in a tremendous effort, reaching that mark in 23 days+ 02:59:13, a 32-hour improvement in Suprabha Beckjord’s work from 1998 in a summer warm spell. What is less known is that Wen-Ya also passed the 1600-mile mark set by Kaneenika Janakova from Slovakia - (set in 2017 in 25:07:16:22) which was done in 23 days +14:52:23 (to be verified) later that evening.

Wen-Ya, Jason, Vasu

Wen-Ya ran 68.6 miles today, and it was good to have a good day today, for a tropical storm in the nearby ocean areas just outside Jamaica and Queens in general will be hit with 4 to 6 inches of rain and strong winds in the next two days or so. We shall see what happens. Stay dry people of Queens, New York.

Yolanda Holder, Vajra and Gary Corbitt

The race was also visited by a few good friends. - Yolanda Holder who entered the race twice and finished on her first effort in 2017 in a time of 51 days+17:00:13. Also we were very happy to see Gary Corbitt, son of legendary Ted Corbitt. Both Ted and Gary have been great friends and supporters of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team over the years. Gary Corbitt is a great historian of ultra-running. He is both the curator of the Ted Corbitt Archives and the official historian for the National Black Marathoner’s Association.

Andrea Marcato arrived at his halfway mark in 21:03:38:40 miles on Wednesday morning. It was his fastest halfway. He has continued to keep is excellent pace going, managing three straight days with over 71 miles.

wen-ya

Tsai Wen-Ya is establishing some new women’s best results for partial distances. Friday morning she will most likely pass one of the great woman distance runners, who happens to be the American All-Time great Suprabha Beckjord, who reached 2500 km in 24:11:11:31.  As many people know about Suprabha, she was a 13-time finisher of the 3100 Mile Race, and held the fastest time for women for 17 years.

The two leading runners Andrea Marcato and Wen-Ya Tsai both managed 70 miles +, with Wen-Ya really growing into the race and getting stronger as the days pass. On day 22 out of 52, Andrea Marcato, the race leader has now passed the half-way mark and is making excellent progress. The top nine runners all managed to complete 60 miles - the magic goal for remaining on target to finish the distance within 52 days.

In the early evening, three runners all passed the 1,300 mile mark very close to each other - Mahasatya Janczak, Nina Huang-Lan Yang and Harita Davies.

Milan Javornicky and first time runner Jason Lester should pass the mark today. The 1,300 Mile mark is significant because the 1,300 Mile race was the forerunner of the 3,100 Mile Self Transcendence Race. But, yesterday's goals are now stepping stones on the journey for greater self-transcendence - a defining feature of the 3,100 Mile Race.

The runners of the 3100 Mile Race enjoyed beautiful weather, and rain free, therfore they could place good totals on the boards. Andrea Marcato had another 72.. 4-mile day, which placed him only about 24 miles before he reaches halfway. The Taiwanese wonder-kind Wen-Ya Tsai reached 67,5 miles, which gave her 1410.5 miles total - another fantastic effort, from the first time of the 3100 Mile Race. Wei-Ming Lo reached another 115 to 117 total today, and he is reaching 1333.17 miles- over 2145.6 km. Vasu Duzhiy reached another solid 52.5 miles. He stands at 1296,43 miles, and a solid fourth place overall.

Harita Davies passes 1,200 Miles

Three runners are very close to each other and often swap places as they move along. Mahasatya Janczak is currently moving ahead, reaching 115 laps, 63.1 miles- with a total of 1255.85 miles. He is about a mile ahead of Nina (Yang Huang-Lan). The third runner in the trio is Harita Davies, the three-time finisher of the 3100 Mile Race, and a steady runner of each race she enters. She is about four miles behind Nina, and during the day, the runners often exchange places.

Heavy rain failed to dampen spirits as our dauntless runners continued their epic quest around the famous 'block' Andrea Marcato led the day, with 67.4 miles - a rare mileage total of less than 70. Andrea averages 72 miles after the first 20 days Shortly behind was the leading woman and 2nd placed overall Wen-Ya Tsai with 64 miles.

Kaneenika and Vasu

In a testament to the difficulty of the race six out of the 14 runners are running at or above the 59.6 miles or more day - this is the daily average needed to finish. However, Harita, Milan and Jason are all within touching distance should inspiration and favourable conditions descend.

There might be two more runners to gain a 1000 mark- Stutisheel Lebedev and Adrian Papuc. Tomorrow, meanwhile, the overall leader Andrea Marcato reached 1300 miles today, in 17 days+14:02:39- His previous best was 18:00:21:31 last year. The 1300 Miler was once our longest distance race - running from 1987 to 2004. But the 3100 Mile Race eventually became our flagship event, as the 1300-mile race, the 1000-mile race, and the 700 Mile Race had provided our distance trio, and had superb performances during its useful tests of the long, longer and longest events. Now we are at the 27th edition of the 3100 Mile Race. The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is always grateful that the runners retain their abilities and desire to test themselves- sometimes over and over again. The Races still continue due to both the runners and our remarkable members of the Team - due to Sri Chinmoy and his vision. It is quite a way to pass the days, months and years of the races.

As expected, Vasu Duzhiy reached the 1000 mile mark first, reaching it in 16 days+03:03:38. Nina (Yang Huang-Lan), was the next runner to get to 1000 miles in 16days+14:59:58. Harita Davies was soon to follow in 16days+15:20:14.

The fourth and final runner to make the split was Mahasatya Janczak, who touched the 1000 for the first time in his running life- in 16days+16:23:03. The leaders continued to move along,, as Andrea went past 72. Miles, and touched the 2000km mark in 16:17:08:15- nearly six hours faster than his best mark from last year. Wei-Ming Lo is placing himself solidly in third overall, and he is reaching 100km and more every day so far. Tomorrow Kaneenika Janakova, Milan Javornicki, and Jason Lester should all make the 1000- mile mark a reality. The pleasant and cooler temps are giving the runners a chance to do well, lest the hurricane season emerges in the North West of the US.

On Friday, there could be as many as four more people who could pass the thousand mark: Vasu Duzhiy, the Ten-Time finisher of the 3100 Mile Race; Nina (Yang Huang-Lan), the Taiwan runner from  Saitama Ken, Japan: Three-time finisher Harita Davies, originally from New Zealand, lives quite regularly in Jamaica, New York, USA: and finally- Mahasatya Janczak from Lublin, Poland. All four runners have a great chance of surpassing the 1000 Mile mark.  Vasu has only 11.3 miles to reach the 1000-mile mark. The other three runners have just over 50 miles more to reach the 1000-mile goal. It will be fun to see runners pass difficult marks in an inspired long distance event.

By Sahishnu Szczesiul
14 September

        Day 15, September 14, 2023

Wen-Ya Tsai, 53, from North District Taichung City, Taiwan (ROC), passed 1000 miles, reaching the distance in 14days+08:08:08. She is currently in second place overall, and has become a new force in multiday running, not only in Taiwan, but also in Asia, as well as in women over 50 years of age. Her 1000 Mile places her in the fastest 10 women who ever passed the kilo distance in and on a road course. Her finish for 1000 miles was the seventh best for the all-time female athletes.

On Thursday, the Taiwanese hero and two–time finisher of the 3100- Wei-Ming Lo- will be in a position to break his own best time for  the 1000 mile distance. At age 59, Wei-Ming is still running his best ever as he flyes and floats along the 3100 Mile Race course.
