"Tibor Latincsics said he would win the September 12 Sri Chinmoy Marathon in Plainsboro, NJ - and he did, with a time of 2:22:26 (editor's note: Tibor would have come in 70th in the 1982 New York City Marathon!) The personable, stocky blond runner from New Jersey's prestigious Sneaker Factory team has been doing well in Area races this past year, and recently won the Princeton Half-Marathon. He started the race with his teammates Mark Amundson and Jim Nugent, then pulled ahead to finish with a five minute gap between him and second place Amundsen (2:27:02). Third place went to Nugent (2:31:14). The 1, 2, 3 finish placed the Team Trophy solidly in the hands of the Sneaker Factory.
Women's winner this year was Suzanne Carden of Warren Street (2:59:01) who, as Tibor, set a new course record for the event. Last year's women's winner, Diana Unanue of Scarsdale, NY, finished in third place with 3:11:46.
The marathon course is as close to ideal as the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team has been able to find in the hilly greater New York area. Flat and fast, it winds along well-paved country roads and past fields of ripened corn. The early start - 7 am - received high compliments from the runners, as it brought them in ahead of the warmer part of the sunny autumn day. Many runners reported PRs for the event..."
