"Sri Chinmoy Marathon: 16-year-old Schiro sets record in debut." New England Running, Volume 7, Number 3, March 1984.
"Cathy Schiro, 16, of Dover, NH, lowered the junior woman's New Hampshire state marathon record and became one of the nation's youngest Olympic trials qualifiers when she won the women's division of the Sri Chinmoy Inspiration Marathon at Hampton, NH, February 5 (NB in a time of 2:45:16).
First to break the tape in an all-out personal best of 2:23:10 was Stephen Lavorgna, 26, from Portsmouth, NH, raced for 20 miles by no one except a fleet-footed red setter. Lavorgna lost his traveling companion when the pooch was called to heel by another runner at one of the intersections along the course.
Said Lavorgna, 'It's lucky he was called back or he'd have whupped me.'...
More than 200 starters ran under slightly drizzly skies in the unseasonably warm air."
