Founder and Philosophy

“The outer life and the inner life always go together. The outer running inspires us to dive deep within. Again, the inner running, which is prayer and meditation, tells us to keep the body in perfect shape…we need them both in our day-to-day life for our inner and outer satisfaction.”

"Regardless of who wins on the sports ground, each one should try to excel in his own life by competing with himself and going forward according to his own capacity to his destined goal.  In this way each individual will all the time make progress and achieve greater and greater perfection.  True happiness comes only from our increasing sense of perfection which we can achieve only through self-transcendence"

Comments from Our Runners

"I really enjoyed the event.  The format, the loop, the volunteers, the energy and the focus on Self-Transcendence.  I look forward to running it again and hopefully doing other Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team events."

"I signed up to 'punish' myself mentally for bad performances lately.  The plan failed drastically, as I, still cannot quite believe it, enjoyed the whole time and the laps just felt shorter and shorter.  Nice route, out and back section, weather and friendly and efficient aid/timing people surely played a big role."

"I will definitely be back next year!"

“Thank you so much to you and the team for another great event!  What a fantastic day and as usual the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team hospitality was top notch!”

“I feel privileged to have been part of this event. You did such a great job taking care of us and helping me along. Many thanks to the volunteers and runners for all of your encouragement and kind words!”

"Thanks SO much for such a terrific day, event AND photographs! :)’

“I wanted to thank you again for a truly exceptional experience!  Of my 370 endurance events, yours has surpassed all in terms of the after-event camaraderie and food!  I really enjoyed having the opportunity to sit and talk with this group of outstanding athletes.  I virtually never eat right after endurance runs, but this food was most wonderfully enjoyable.  It's amazing to me that this event is not simply swamped with participants!  I guess that is part of the charm!”

“Thanks again for a great race on Saturday! I had a lot of fun. :) “

“What a great event!  I hope you’ll reiterate our thanks to all the volunteer angels who applauded, cheered, motivated and kept track of all of  us.  They sat there all day in the wind and the rain, while we had the advantage to keep moving.  It will be great to see the pictures and all the results. Hats off and thanks to you all for an organized and fun run!”

“Thank you so much to the team for a lovely event Sunday.  It was great to run a Sri Chinmoy event again as when I lived in Ontario I would normally have 2 Sri Chinmoy events on the schedule per year.  Great course and as always the volunteers, post run meal and support were top notch.”

“I just wanted to give you some positive feedback from the run on Sunday.  You and your helpers made all the difference for me in finishing the race.  My wife and I were also touched by the philosophy and positive energy.  We wish we could have met Master Chinmoy in person but you folks have continued the wave very successfully!”

"Just wanted to say THANK YOU— and the volunteers! I really enjoyed my day at the 7-hour race!"

"Hope this message finds you well. I wanted to say great job on Saturday. Very well-organized event and great course to run. Thank you to you and all the staff for putting that on!"

    Seattle 7 & 13 Hour Self-Transcendence Races

    About the author:

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

The Seattle Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team put on the 14th annual 7 & 13 Hour Self-Transcendence races.  It was a perfect day with 55-degree weather in the morning, low-60s in the afternoon, and overcast skies until 3pm which kept the field of 40 runners nice and cool.

It was a great event with visiting volunteers  from Chicago, Los Angeles, Minnesota, New York, Vancouver and Victoria.

    Record-Breaking Performance in the Women’s 13-Hour Race

Deanna Kytonen produced a spectacular result in the Sri Chinmoy 7 & 13-Hour Races, smashing the women’s 13-Hour course record by more than two full laps (over 3 miles). Her new record stands at an impressive 72.38 miles. This achievement highlights excellent pacing and mental resilience in the cool conditions.

Margaret Yi, running on her birthday, tied the previous women’s course record, adding an emotional and inspiring highlight to the day.

Men’s 13-Hour Victory and Impressive Debut

James Yoo won the men’s 13-Hour division of the Sri Chinmoy 7 & 13-Hour Races with a remarkable 75.46 miles in his very first ultra-marathon. His outstanding debut performance demonstrated how the supportive environment of Sri Chinmoy events helps newcomers achieve exceptional results.

Standout Stories from the 7-Hour Division

In the 7-Hour race, the mother and son duo Erin and Colin Morris each placed second in their respective divisions. Together they covered more than 60 miles, showcasing the family-friendly and inclusive nature of the Sri Chinmoy 7 & 13-Hour Races. The shorter 7-hour format serves as an excellent stepping stone for runners new to ultra-distances while still offering a meaningful endurance challenge.
