Ten Day Men - Race begins April 23

Madhupran Schwerk,52, Solingen,Germany
One of the world's greatest long distance runners to ever lace them up, Mr. Schwerk holds over 70 records for distances run beyond 1300 miles, as well as still holding second place with 171miles in 24 hours to the Greek legend Yiannis Kouros. In 2007 Madhupran ran 627 miles(1010.08 km) for six days to become only the 13th person to ever go over 600 miles in the last 150 years. His two victories at 3100 miles were historical jaunts- in 2002 he completed the race in 42 days,13 hours, breaking the previous record by four days. In 2006 he erased his own record by 29 hours (41 days,eight hours). He is dedicating this Ten Day race to the memory of Sri Chinmoy.

Achim Heukemes,56, Grafenberg,Germany
Achim has run 1000 miles in 11 days,18 hours and over 150 miles for 24 hours, best among his 15 multidays and over 40 ultras.He completed 4568 km (2838 miles) in the Trans Australia Race Stage Race.

Glen Turner,48,Louisville,CO USA
Glen finished second in the Ten Day last year with 654 miles. He has run over 100 ultras including several multidays. Earlier this year he completed 2630 miles pushing a custom-made ‘surrey' with his gear inside from west coast to east in a remarkable 37 days. Maybe he has created a new sport in addition to getting into tremendous shape.

Bob Oberkher,53, Northvale,NJ USA
Last year Bob set a personal best distance of 624 miles, good for fifth place in the Ten Day. He has been running for 35 years and has five multidays among the 51 ultras and 122 marathons completed.

Vladimir Balatsky,36,Vienna,Austria(Ukraine)
Two years ago Vladimir ran his best race with 653 miles, good for second place in the Ten Day, putting pressure on event record holder and winner Rimas Jakelaitis. Mr. Balatsky has only been running for seven years, so his best events are ahead of him.

Hubert Muckenhumer,40, Salzburg, Austria
Hubert won the 2003 Ten Day race with 631 miles. He also finished with 627 miles in 2001 at Wards Island Park, where Rimas Jakelaitis set the current race record of 901 miles.

Don Winkley,70,Corpus Christi,Texas, USA
Don has run over 20 multidays in 30 years of running, and has set many age group records for various distances. Included are his two times over 1000 miles(best 14 days,23 hours) and six times finishing the Transe-Gaule race across France. Don set pending marks for 48 hours(171 miles) in 2003 age group 65-69 and had 200.5 miles in age group 60-64 in 1998. He has also run across the US in Trans-Am and won the 1997 Ten Day with 531 miles.

Luis Rios,60,Brooklyn,NY, USA
In over 30 years of running, Luis has finished over 200 ultras including 12 multidays. He ran 525 miles last year in the Ten Day, and has moved into a new age group this year. In years past he has had several fast 100 milers and has gone over 140 miles for 24 hours.

Donald Landry,62,Montreal,Canada
Donald is moving up to the Ten day after a sparkling 361 miles in the Six day last year. He has completed 63 ultras and 109 marathons in 16 years of running.

Manfred Edinger,46,Vienna,Austria
Manfred reached 542 miles in the Ten Day last year, the longest he had ever run in 12 years of training and racing. He has completed over 20 ultras and two multidays.

Barney McBryde,43, Auckland,New Zealand In 13 years of running, Barney has completed 46 ultras including three multidays. In 2006 he reached 509 miles in the Ten Day, and in 2006 he ran 373 miles in the Six Day.

Chanakhya Jakovic,54,Jamaica,NY (UK)
In 35 years of running, Chanakhya has completed over 50 ultras, including 24 multidays. His bests are 308 miles for Six days, 470 miles for Ten days, and 653 miles in the 1000 mile race(2003).

Igor Mudryk,34,Vinnitsa,Ukraine
Last year Igor ran 533 miles in the Ten Day, which was his first multiday race. he has been running for 10 years.

Frederick Davis III,60, Cleavland,Ohio USA
Another prolific athlete, Frederick has completed 214 ultras in 26 years of running. He reached 500 miles last year in the Ten Day, his fifth multiday and longest distance covered in a race.

Jirka Caslava,33,Zlin, Czech Republic
Jirka has six multidays to his credit,including 485 miles in the Ten Day.

Valentyn Ionov,37,Kiev, Ukraine
Valentyn reached 472 miles last year in the Ten Day, his first multiday in 8 years of running.

Viddyut Balmer,25,San Francisco,CA USA
In eight years of running Viddyut has completed two multidays, including 440 miles in the Ten day in 2005.

Pradeep Hoogakker,29, DenHaag,Netherlands
In eight years of running, Pradeep has completed eight ultras, including 314 miles for six days.

Uwe Postler,44,Vienna, Austria
In 2007 Uwe ran 462 miles in the Ten Day, his fourth multiday and thirty-fifth ultramarathon.

Tamas Agostin,43, Budapest, Hungary
Tamas has a best of 420 miles in five multiday races.

Michel Gouin,47,Drummondville,Quebec,Canada
Michel has completed more than 100 ultras in 29 years of running. His most acclaimed achievement is a treadmill record in the Guinness record book a few years back.

Klaus Schulz,67,Berlin,Germany
Klaus has run 43 ultras in 14 years of running, including 9 multidays. His best for the Ten day is 427 miles.

Vladimir Razumovskiy,33,Krasnodor,Russia
This will be the first multiday for Vladimir in seven years of running.

Jewgenij Kuschnow,29,Vienna,Austria
Jewgenij has run four ultras in five years of running and looks forward to his first multiday.

Mykhailo Ukrainskyi,34,Berdyansk, Ukraine
Misha will be running his first multiday this year.

Women-

Lenka Svecova,33,Brno,Czech Republic
Lenka has completed 13 multidays in 26 years of running. Her bests include 1000 miles in 15 days 15 hours, 635 miles for ten days (split), and 413 miles for six days - all national records. She won the women's division of the Ten Day race in 2004 with 621 miles.

In thirteen years of running, Kaneenika has completed seven multidays and 17 ultras. Her bests include 422 miles for six days, 700 miles in 10 days, 19 hours, and 1000 miles in 15 days, 19 hours. All three marks are Slovakian national records.

Nataliya Hlushchuk,32, Vinnitsa, Ukraine
In 12 years of running Nataliya has excelled in ultras, including 515 miles to lead the ladies in the 2004 Ten Day, and a personal best of 600 miles in 2006.

Pratishruti Khisamoutdinova,64,Smolensk,Russia
Pratishruti ran 1090 miles to lead the women in the 1300 mile race in 2003. In 2001 she finished the 1000 mile race in 16 days 01 hours, becoming the oldest finisher of that event at that time. Pratishruti reached 1015 miles in the 2002 1300 mile race in her first attempt at the distance. She has a best of 615 miles for ten days. She was a former professor of physical culture at Smolensk Institute, and was also a champion speed skater in earlier years. Last year she still churned out 507 miles at age 63.

Svitlana Samarina,33,Kiev,Ukraine

Svitlana completed 486 miles for fifth place last year in her third multiday.

Karnayati Morison,61,Ottawa,Ontario, Canada
Karnayati has run 13 ultras in 32 years of running. Her best multidays include 324 miles for six days, and 543 miles in the Ten Day.

Ivana Nemcova,27,Prague,Czech Republic
In 2006 Ivana ran 507 miles for her best Ten Day. She has been running for five years.

Ingrid Kirschner,42,Munich,Germany
Last year Ingrid finished fourth with 503 miles, her best performance in the Ten Day.She has five multidays in 11 years of running.

Dagmar Grossheim,46,Grafenberg,Germany
Dagmar has completed over 20 ultras in her 20 year competitive career. She has excelled in the Badwater Desert crossing (146 miles), as well as in the Ten Times Ironman Triathlon championship, which she won in 2006.

Shishaldin Hanlen,26, Brooklyn,NY USA
Shishaldin has run three multidays in six years of running, including 338 miles last year in the Six Day.

Marion Landry,63,Montreal,Canada
Marion has completed 63 ultras and 93 marathons in 14 years of running.Last year she ran 330 miles in her first Six day event, which is a pending Canadian age group record.

Vishuddhi Trummer,45,Wels,Austria
Visuddhi has completed three multiday races in 19 years of running, with a best of 436 miles in the Ten Day.

Alfia Olga Soboleva,45,Smolensk,Russia
Last year Olga ran 292 miles in six days in her fifth multiday. She has been running and training for 12 years.

Sylva Stradalova,29,Zlin, Czech Republic
Sylva has done 450 miles in the Ten Day from 2006, her best of three multidays in five years of running.

Olga Abramovskikh,27,Moscow,Russia
In five years of running, Olga has completed seven ultras. Her best distance is 512 miles in the Ten Day of 2006.

Niribili File,62, Auckland,New Zealand
This will be Niribili's sixth multiday race. She has run 500 miles for ten days and 331 miles for six days, which are both New Zealand age-group(50-54) records. Last year she ran 309 miles in the Six Day in her new age group.

Kateryna Krot,32,Mariopol, Ukraine
Kateryna had a pleasant beginning last year in her first multiday, running 300 miles in the Six Day. She has five ultras in eight years of running.

Kushali Tarantsova,41,Kiev,Ukraine
Last year Kushali completed 400 miles in the Ten Day, her fourth multiday. She has run 12 ultras in 10 years of running.

Abhaya Field,63, Christchurch,New Zealand
This will be Abhaya's third multiday in 11 years of running. she has a best of 283 miles in the Six Day race.

Tirtha Voelckner,36,Munich,Germany
Tirtha will be running her first multiday. she has run five ultras in 17 years of running.

Alina Sikorsky,29,Kingston,Ont. Canada
This will be Alina's first multiday in a brief running career.

Six Day Men - race starts April 27

Asprihanal Aalto,36,Helsinki,Finland
The three-time winner of our Six Day is back to defend his title and personal best of 505 miles from last year. Asprihanal has also completed the 3100 Mile race, longest footrace in the world, an amazing seven times, with four victories including the 2007 performance in another personal best of 43 days,four hours.

Katsuhiro Tanaka,36,Yokosuka,Kanagawa Japan
Katsu-san has completed over 100 ultras and 30 multidays in 24 years of running. His best for six days is 814.4 km(506 miles). Last year he finished second in the Athens International Ultra Festival, running 885 km(550 miles) in 7 days of stage running.

John Geesler,49,St. Johnsville,NY USA
Last year John finished third in the Six Day with 412 miles, his first attempt. He has completed over 100 ultras in a sparkling 24 year running career. Bests include the US 48 hour record of 248 miles in 2004, as well as a 24 hour age-group US record of 157.9 miles. On Jan 1 of 2005 he completed 300 miles at the Across the Years 72- Hour Race, and did 287 miles at the same race in 2007.

Mark Dorion,48, El Paso,Texas, USA
Last year Mark completed 397 miles in the Six day. Mark has been running 37 years, completing over 200 ultras. Bests include 131 miles for 24 hours, 5:55 for 50 miles, 7:36 for 100 km, and 2:27 for the marathon. Mark has been a race director of many short, popular trail runs in the Southwest, and is a regular contributer to Ultrarunning magazine.

Pranjal Milovnik,35, Bratislava,Slovakia
Pranjal has run 870 miles in 15 days, including splits of 622 miles for10 days and 392 for six days. Pranjal has been running for 17 years and has completed 23 ultras, including 8 multidays and two Ironman Triathlons.He has completed the 3100 mile race three times, with a best of 51 days,16 hours.

Pete Stringer,66, Osterville,MA USA
Pete has run over 60 ultras and countless marathons in 53 years of running. Last year in his Six Day debut, he garnered 332 miles and a lot of admiration from his fellow competitors.

Frederick Riemer,60, Salt Lake City, Utah USA
In the last 30 years, Fred has run over 125 ultras including 11 multidays.Best performances include 118 miles for 24 hours, several finishes of high mountain 100 mile trail races, and completion of our Five Day Race back in 1987 (268 miles). In 2005 he ran 279 miles in the Six Day.

Andrey Andreyev,42,St. Petersburg,Russia
Andrey surprised many with a very respectable 344 miles in his first multiday last year.He has been running for 12 years.

Yuri Trostenyuk,44,Vinnitsa,Ukraine
Yuri had good debut in the Six Day last year with 337 miles.

Pavel Szymanski,36,Zlin, Czech Republic
Last year Pavel ran 242 miles in his first multiday after six years of running and seven ultras.

Gary Cross,48,Douglas,Arizona, USA
Gary has completed 16 multidays in 39 years of running. Included are various efforts at 48 hours, and six days, with a best of 421 miles.Last year he ran 272 miles in five days before leaving to serve his Air Force requirements back home. Gary has also given back to the sport by offering races for the running community. He directs a Six Day race in Arizona. Roman Dzierlatka,51, Bristol, CT USA

In 30 years of running, Roman has run over 100 ultras and 8 multidays. His best is 269 miles in 2004.

Amiya Smerda,33,Ostrava,Czech Republic
Amiya completed 260 miles in his first Six Day in 2006.

Michal Petricek,43,Brno, Czech Republic
Michal has run 11 multidays in the last five years, with a best of 423 miles in the Ten Day in 2004.

Gabor Rongits,30,Budapest,Hungary
Gabor will be running his first multiday after 12 years of running.

Kamil Kozub,32,Zlin, Czech Republic

This will be the first multiday for Kamil after 12 years of running.

Purna-Samarpan Querhammer,30, Hamburg,Germany
This will be the first six day for Purna-Samarpa. He has completed 8 ultras and several marathons as well as three Ironman triathlons.

Sam Soccoli,76,N. Babylon,NY USA
Sam has run 44 ultras in the last six years. Bests include 364 miles for 7 days in 2006 and 191 miles in 72 hours in 2004.

Petr Simicek,31,Brno,Czech Republic
Petr has completed three ultras and one multiday in 10 years of running. This is his first Six Day.

Dmitry Volkov,34,Smolensk, Russia
This will be the first multiday for Dmitry in a brief running career.

Mikhail Nemtinov,45,Moscow,Russia
Mikhail will be attempting his first multiday in ten years of running.

Women - 6 Day

Dipali Cunningham,49, Melbourne,Australia
Dipali is one of the world's best women ultra-distance runners. She has won 19 of the 22 multiday events she has entered since 1992, including five overall victories. In the spring of 2001 she set a new women's world record on the road for six days with 510 miles, defeating all the men in that race. In 2001 she ran 700 miles in 9 days 11 hours, the third fastest all-time for women. In 1998 she set a women's world best on the road for six-days with 504 miles, despite heavy rains at Wards Island Park. In 1999 she won the 700 mile race overall in 10 days, 21 hours. She is ranked third in the world for 700 miles, and third for 1000 miles, having dominated the women's 1000 mile race in 1997 in 13 days, 20 hours. She has won all ten Six Day titles in our spring-time event. She is also the women's course record holder for the Ten Day with 723 miles.In 2004,Dipali set a new women's age group 45-49 world best for six days with 479 miles. Later in the fall, she won the 700 mile race overall, her eighth victory in that event.

Vedisha Papp,42,Budapest,Hungary
Vedisha has finished two multidays in 10 years of running. Her best Six Day was 262 miles.

Uljana Jevdokimova,53,Kerava,Finland
In seven years of running Uljana has finished one Six Day race with 245 miles.

Rageshri Muzychenko,38Kiev,Ukraine
Rageshri has completed four multidays in 16 years of running, with a best of 245 miles for Six Days.

Barbara Sorrell,50,Delmar,NY USA
In over 22 years of running, barbara has finished over 50 ultras, but will be attempting her first multiday. She has run ten 100 mile trail races and finished them all, with a best of 22 hours at the Vermont 100.

Darya Nikitina,24,Moscow,Russia
This will be the multiday debut for Darya in a brief running career.

Ujjwala Mettrick,22,Christchurch,NZ
Ujjwala has completed two ultras and 10 marathons in five years of running.This will be her first Six Day.

TEN DAY RACE - MEN


Rimas Jakelaitis,52, Brooklyn,NY LIT

Rimas is one of the world's great superlong distance runners. Last year he won the Ten Day race for the fifth time with 665 miles.In 2001 he set the course record, running 901 miles for ten days,the second best total in history. In the process he passed 600 miles for six days, becoming only the 12th person all-time to ever do it. In 2000, Rimas astounded everyone with a world record of 16 days 00 hours in the 1300 miler, taking over 15 hours off the record as well as gaining the 2000 km world best. In 1999 he won the Six Day race with 517 miles. Rimas won the Ten Day in 2004 for the fourth time with 653 miles. He still holds the Lithuanian record for 100 km(7:20)and has run the marathon in 2:35. He even ran the 3100 miler in 2002, completing the distance in 50 days 2 hours. Over the years he has won several shorter ultras in the New York area.

Vladimir Balatsky,35, Graz,Austria UKR

Last year Vladimir finished second with 653 miles, a personal best and the longest he had ever run. He has run 386 miles for six days and seems to have the temperament for long distance racing.

Trishul Cherns,50,Middle Village,NY CAN

Canada's premier multiday specialist, and one of the world's most prolific runners, Trishul returns for another multiday event. He has completed 35 multiday races. Last year he finished third with 640 miles. In 1999 he finished third in the 3100 miler in 50 days, three hours during the hottest summer in New York in 100 years. He holds 112 Canadian national records for various distance including 1000 miles(13 days,7 hours) 1000 km(7 days,14 hours) and 48 hours(221+ miles). He has done 538 miles for six days and 130 miles for 24 hours. He has run over 160 ultras since 1978, totaling over 33,000 racing miles. He lives with his wife Kaaren in Middle Village, and works as a physiotherapist.

David Luljak,51, Chevy Chase,MD USA

The event record holder for six days at 541 miles, David moves up to the Ten for the first time. In 16 years of running he has completed 8 multidays, including 261 miles for 72 hours and 156 miles for 24 hours.

Christopher Muellauer,34, Zurich, SUI

Christopher has run 16 ultras including four multidays in the last seven years. His best was 700 miles in 10 days,17 hours in 2003.

Petr Spacil,29,Zlin, Czech Rep

Petr has run 13 ultras with good success at longer distances. In 2004 he finished fourth in the Ten day with 612 miles. He has a split of 646 miles for ten days from the mile race, where he eventually ran 1085 miles.

Luis Rios,59, Brooklyn,NY USA

Luis has run for over 30 years, including over 200 ultras and 12 multidays. He has run 646 miles for 12 days and has a best of 421 miles for six days. Last year he completed 501 miles in the Ten day.

Pavel Saraz,31,Komjatice, SLK

In 2005, Pavol finished second in the Ten day race with 540 miles. He has been running for seven years.

Glen Turner,47,Louisville,CO USA

Last year Glen led the men with 421 miles in the Six day race. He has run over 50 ultras, including three multidays.

Bob Oberkehr,52, Northvale,NJ USA

Bob has completed 42 ultras in 30 years of running, with three multidays, including 403 miles for six days last year.

Zoran Marinkovic,43, Leskovac SERBIA

Last year Zoran reached 325 miles for six days, a culmination of 10 years running and training.

Garry Wise,60, Yuendumu,NT AUS

In 2005, Garry completed 372.8 miles(600km) in the Cliff Young Six Day Race in Colac, Australia. He is a relative newcomer to multiday running, having been training for only three years.

Manfred Edinger,45,Vienna, AUT

Manfred ran 331 miles last year in the Six day race, his first multiday event in 11 years of running.

Jirka Caslava,32, Zlin, Czech Rep

Jirka has run 5 multidays, including 485 miles for 10 days.

Sergey Sydenko,34, Donetsk UKR

Last year in his multiday debut, Sergey completed 322 miles for six days.

Frederick Davis III, 59, Bedford, OH USA

In over 25 years of running, Frederick has completed over 200 ultra events, including 3 multidays. In 2002 he ran 172 miles in the ATY 72 hour race.

Tom Kline,62, Sunny Isles Beach, FL USA

Tom has been a competitive racewalker for nearly 40 years, and has logged over 43,000 miles in his 46 ultras and many journey runs. In 2003 he walked 326 miles for six days here in NY. He has walked from Tijuana, Mexico to San Francisco(628 miles) and Arctic Ocean to Fairbanks, Alaska (415 miles last August), among his many journeys.

Dragan Stojanovich,35,Belgrade,SERBIA

Dragan has run six ultras in six years of running, including 270 miles for six days and 456 miles for 10 days.

Rastislav Ulicny,26, Presov,SLK

Rasta has completed six ultras in 11 years of running, including 223 miles for three days.

Jade Lynn,31, Auckland,NZ

Jade completed 300 miles for six days in 2005, his only multiday in 9 years of running.

Uwe Postler,43, Innsbruck,AUT

In 15 years of running Uwe has finished three multidays, with a best of 458 miles for 10 days.

Klaus Schulz,66, Berlin GER

Klaus has a best of 479 miles for 10 days set in 2005, as well as a split of 311 miles for six days. He has completed over 30 ultras in 13 years of running and will be the Race Director for the inaugural Self-Transcendence 24 Hour race in Berlin in October.

Tamas Agoston,42, Budapest, HUN

Tamas has completed three multidays in 17 years of running, with a best of 400 miles for 10 days.

Valentyn Ionov,36,Kiev, UKR

Valentyn has run five ultras and numerous marathons and will be experiencing his first multiday.

Igor Mudrik,33, Vinnitsa,UKR

Igor will also be experiencing his first multiday in 10 years of running.

TEN DAY RACE - WOMEN

Surasa Maier,48,Salzburg, AUT

In 2002 Surasa broke two long-standing records for women, setting new world bests at 1000 km (7+16:08:37) and 700 miles (8+15:34:13). In 2001 she broke the women's world record for 1300 miles by completing the distance in 17 days 21 hours, nearly an hour and a half under the record. Her split for 1000 miles (13 days 17 hours) ranks second all-time. Surasa won the 1000 miler for the women in 2000 in 14 days 12 hours, the only finisher of that race. She has won every multiday race she has entered.

Lenka Svecova,32,Brno,Czech Rep

Lenka has completed 19 multidays in 24 years of running. Her bests include 1000 miles in 15 days 15 hours, 635 miles for ten days (split), and 413 miles for six days - all national records. She won the women's division of the Ten Day race in 2004 with 621 miles.

Pratishruti Khisamoutdinova,63,Smolensk RUS

Pratishruti ran 1090 miles to lead the women in the 1300 mile race in 2003. In 2001 she finished the 1000 mile race in 16 days 01 hours, becoming the oldest finisher of that event at that time. Pratishruti reached 1015 miles in the mile race in her first attempt at the distance. She has a best of 615 miles for ten days. She was a former professor of physical culture at Smolensk Institute, and was also a champion speed skater in earlier years.

Dorothea Vogeli,43,Ettingen, SUI

Dorothea has run 29 ultras, including 8 multidays. Her farthest distance was 901 miles in the 1000 mile race in 2002. She has run 577 miles for ten days and 106 miles (172 km) for 24 hours.

Visuddhi Trummer,44,Wels, AUT

Visuddhi has completed two six day races in 18 years of running, with a best of 331 miles.

Svitlana Samarina,32, Kiev, UKR

Svitlana ran 303 miles in the Six day race last year in her second multiday event. She has been running ten years.

Karina Ward,31, Canberra, AUS

In 2005 Karina ran 471 miles in the Ten day for fourth place among the ladies.

Sylva Stradalova,28, Zlin, Cz Reb

Sylva completed 450 miles in the 10 Day race, her second multiday.

Ingrid Kirschner,41, Munich GER

Ingrid ran 465 miles in the Ten day race last year, and has run four multiday races in 10 years of running.

Tatyana Jauk, 36, Graz , AUT (Slovenia)

This will be Tatyana's first multiday race. She has excelled in the sport of Karate, having been 8-time National Champion in her home country of Slovenia.

Larysa Khramova,43, Nilolaev, UKR

Larysa has twice finished the Ten Day, with a best of 444 miles in 2005, good for fourth place.

Kushali Taransova,40, Kiev, UKR

Kushali has run thee multidays, with the longest distance being 403 miles in last year's Ten day race.

Anastasiya Tabachnikova,25,Cheyabinsk, RUS

This will be the first multiday for Anastasiya.

Ieva Kurzemniece,42, Riga, LAT

This will be the third ultra but first multiday for Ieva.

Tetyana Pasternak,44, Donetsk, UKR

Last year Tetyana ran 147 miles in the Six day race.


SIX DAY RACE - MEN

John Geesler,48,St. Johnsville,NY USA

John has completed over 80 ultras in a sparkling 23 year running career. Bests include the US 48 hour record of 248 miles in 2004, as well as a 24 hour age-group US record of 157.9 miles. On Jan 1 of 2005 he completed 300 miles at the Across the Years 72-Hour Race, and did 287 miles at the same race this year. This will be his first attempt at six days.

Asprihanal Aalto,35, Helsinki,FIN

Asprihanal has emerged victorious in the Six Day Race two times, (2003 -457 miles and miles) winning each race with supreme efforts on the last day. One of the best endurance runners in the world, Asprihanal is ranked second all-time for 3100 miles (43 days 15 hours), has won the 700 mile race three times with a best of 9 days five hours, and has won the 3100 race three times (2000, 2001, 2004). For three straight years he ran all three yearly Self-Transcendence multidays in New York (six days, 3100 miles, 700 miles)- a feat unprecedented in multiday annals. He has also hiked the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail in solo fashion, covering 60 km per day for up to twelve weeks. Asprihanal works as a courier and delivery man back in Helsinki.

Serge Arbona,42, Baltimore, MD USA

Serge has completed nearly 70 ultras, with good speed and stamina. He won the Umstead 100 mile Trail Race in 2004, and held the 24 hour treadmill record of 152.2 miles, which was also set in 2004. With good speed for 100 miles(14:35) and trail strengths, Serge could be headed for a good six-day debut on the flats of Flushing Meadows.

Mark Dorion,47, El Paso, TX USA

Last year Mark completed 383 miles in the Six Day. Mark has been running 36 years, completing over 200 ultras. Bests include 131 miles for 24 hours, 5:55 for 50 miles, 7:36 for 100 km, and 2:27 for the marathon. Mark has been a race director of many short, popular trail runs in the Southwest.

Hubert Muckenhumer,39,Salzburg,AUT

Hubert won the Ten day race in 2003 with 631 miles, his best effort. Hubert has completed over 30 ultras in 15 years of running, including a third place finish in the Ten Day in 2001 with 627 miles, a third place finish in the 700 miler in 1999 (10 days, 2 hours), and 884 miles in the 1000 miler in 2001.

Gary Cross, 47, Douglas, AZ USA

Gary has completed 15 multidays in 38 years of running. Included are various efforts at 48 hours, and six days, with a best of 421 miles. Gary has also given back to the sport by offering races for the running community. He is the Race Director of the Arizona Six Day Race.

Harald Reisecker,37,Salzburg, AUT

Harald has run 550 miles for ten days, 360 for six days, and completed the 700 miler in 2001 in 10 days,22 hours.

Christopher Rana,30, Salzburg, AUT

In seven years of running, Christopher has run five multidays, including 700 miles in 11 days 14 hours, and 386 miles for six days.

Mario Komak,32, Bratislava, SLK

Mario has finished two multidays in 9 years of running, including 293 miles for six days.

Tim Lawson,21, Portland, OR USA

Last year Tim ran 285 miles in his first six day race at the tender age of 20. This year the seasoned veteran is back for more.

Peter Elliott,41, Melbourne,AUS

Peter has completed two multidays in seven years of running, including 300 miles for six days, and 460 miles in the Ten day in 2005.

Pete Stringer,65, Osterville,MA USA

Pete has been running for 56 years, including 35 ultras and many marathons, but at the young age of 65 is trying his first multiday. He has completed many trail runs of 100 miles including Leadville, Vermont and Umstead.

Andy Cable,41,Shelton,CT USA

In nine years of running, Andy has finished 23 ultras, including the Vermont 100, but is attaempting his first multiday.

Roman Dzierlatka,Bristol,CT USA

Roman has completed six multidays in over 30 years of running.His best six day was 269 miles in 2004. Over 20 years ago he ran 100 miles in 18 hours at Shea Stadium, only a half mile away from Meadow Lake.

Dennis Hopkins,27,Astoria,NY USA

In 11 years of running, Dennis has completed 12 ultras and a few journey runs but is attempting his first six day race.

Donald Landry,61, Montreal, Quebec, CAN

Don has managed to complete 56 ultras in 15 years of running, including bests of 200 miles in 72 hours(2005) and 140 miles(226 km) in 24 hours.

Andrey Andreev,41,St Petersburg RUS

Andrey is trying his first multiday after a decade of running marathons and short ultras.

Yuriy Trostenyuk,43, Vinnitsa, UKR

Yuriy is moving up to six days after having completed 24 hour races and many marathons.

SIX DAY RACE - WOMEN

Dipali Cunningham,48,Melbourne, AUS

Dipali is one of the world's best women ultra-distance runners. She has won 18 of the 21 multiday events she has entered since 1992, including five overall victories. In the spring of 2001 she set a new women's world record on the road for six days with 510 miles, defeating all the men in that race. In 2001 she ran 700 miles in 9 days 11 hours, the third fastest all-time for women. In 1998 she set a women's world best on the road for six-days with 504 miles, despite heavy rains at Wards Island Park. In 1999 she won the 700 mile race overall in 10 days, 21 hours. She is ranked third in the world for 700 miles, and third for 1000 miles, having dominated the women's 1000 mile race in 1997 in 13 days, 20 hours. She has won all nine Six-Day titles in our spring-time event. She is also the women's course record holder for the Ten day with 723 miles. In 2004, Dipali set a new women's age group 45-49 world best for six days with 479 miles. Later in the fall, she won the 700 mile race overall, her eighth victory in that event.

Juli Aistars,48,Lake Zurich, IL USA

Juli has completed 26 ultras in nine years of running, including 153 miles for 48 hours and 21 hours for 100 miles.

Elvira Janosi,51, Palic SERBIA

In a long running career of over 30 years, Elvira has completed 77 ultras, including 41 events of 24 hours or longer. In the 700 mile race in 2000, Elvira ran 700 miles for the second time in 12 days four hours. In the 10 day in 2000 she won the women's division for the third time in a row with 550 miles. She set a personal best of 621 km (385 miles) in the Colac Six Day race in Australia in 2005. Born in Hungary, she and her husband Tibor live near the beautiful town of Subotica, Serbia..

Kate Condon,51, Chichester, UK

Kate covered 801 miles in 2004 on this same course in the 1300 mile race. She has run five multidays in nearly 20 years of running, including 351 miles in six days.

Harita Davies,32, Christchurch,NZ

Last year Harita ran 347 miles in the six day, good for fourth place for the ladies and seventh overall. She has finished three multidays in 12 tears of running.

Petra Missbrenner,37,Vienna, AUT

Petra ran 302 miles in her first six day race in 2005, and looks forward to the challenge of six days again.

Shishaldin Hanlen,26, Brooklyn,NY USA

Shishaldin completed 262 miles last year in the six day race, her first multiday in five years of running.

Niribili File,61, Auckland,NZ

This will be Niribili's fifth multiday race. She has run 500 miles for ten days and 331 miles for six days, which are both New Zealand age-group(50-54) records.

Marion Landry,62,Montreal,Quebec, CAN

Marion has run over 50 ultras in the last 13 years of running, including 161 miles for 72 hours and 124 miles for 48 hours.

Abhaya Field,62, Christchurch,NZ

Last year Abhaya ran 278 miles at age 61 in the six day, so naturally she is looking at an even better result this year.

Ten Day Men

 Rimas Jakelaitis,51,Brooklyn,NY (Lithuania)
        We are happy to welcome back Rimas, one of the world's great superlong distance runners. In 2000, Rimas astounded everyone with a world record of 16 days 00 hours in the 1300 miler, taking over 15 hours off the record as well as gaining the 2000 km world best. In 2001 he won the Ten Day race, running 901 miles for ten days,the second best total in history. In the process he passed 600 miles for six days,becoming only the 12th person alltime to ever do it. In 1999 he won the Six-day race with 517 miles. Rimas won the Ten Day in 2004 for the fourth time with 653 miles. He holds the Lithuanian record for 100 km(7:20)and has run the marathon in 2:35. He even ran the 3100 miler in 2002, completing the distance in 50 days 2 hours. He has also won several shorter ultras in the New York area.
Trishul Cherns,49, Middle Village,NY   (Canada)
        Canada's premier multiday specialist, and one of the world's most prolific runners, Trishul returns for another multiday event.. He has completed 32 multiday events. In 1999 he finished third in the 3100 miler in 50 days,three hours during the hottest summer in New York in 100 years. He holds 112 Canadian national records for various distance including 1000 miles(13 days,7 hours) 1000 km(7 days,14 hours) and 48 hours(221+ miles). He has done 538 miles for six days and 130 miles for 24 hours. he has a ten day best of 605 miles.He has run over 160 ultras since 1978, totalling over 33,000 racing miles. He lives with his wife Kaaren in Middle Village, and works as a physiotherapist.
Luis Rios,58, Brooklyn, NY USA
        In 2004 Luis ran 646 miles in the 700 mile race,the farthest he has gone in a multiday event. A fixture at all shorter ultras in the New York area, Luis has had a long and prolific running journey. He has completed over 200 ultras, including a best at 24 hours-140 miles, and several fast 100 milers to his credit. He has done ten multiday events, with a best of 421 miles for six days. He ran 525 miles in the Ten Day race in 2001 as well as in 2003. Last year he ran 480 miles in the Ten day,but was hampered by a sore back.

Barney McBryde,41, Auckland, New Zealand
          Barney has run 34 ultras, including 373 miles for six days(2004) and 180 km(111 miles) for 24 hours.This will be his first attempt at ten days

Tibor Malits,34, Szekesfehervar, Hungary
          A veteran of 11 multidays and 45 ultras, Tibor has best of 564 miles in the Ten Day, and completed the 700 miler in 11 days 13 hours, both in 2001.

        Vladimir has run four ultras in seven years of running, including 336 miles for six days in the 2005 race, which was a good multiday baptism.

          Pratishrutiran ran 1090 miles to lead the women in the 1300 mile race in 2003. In 2001 she finished the 1000 mile race in 16 days 01 hours, becoming the oldest finisher of that event at that time. Pratishruti reached 1015 miles in the 2002 1300 mile race in her first attempt at the distance. Pratishruti has run 20 ultras in the last few years, including 382   miles for six days, as well as 872 miles in the 1000 mile race in 2000. She has a best of 572 miles for ten days. She was a former professor of physical culture at Smolensk Institute, and was also a champion speed skater in earlier years.

Nataliya Hlushchuk,30, Kiev, Ukraine
        Nataliya surprised many with a win for the women in the 2005 Ten day race, garnering 515 miles. She has run four ultras in ten years of running.

Sarah Barnett,30, Melbourne, Australia
      Sarah has completed four ultras, including 338 miles for six days, and 475 miles in ten days.

        In nine years of running, Ingrid has completed five ultras and two multidays, with a best of 430 miles for ten days.

John has also won the US National Championship for 24 hours.and has run under 15 hours for 100 miles.

Glen Turner, 46, Boulder,Colorado, USA
          Glen has completed over 50 ultras in 32 years of running.His bests include 300km(186 miles) for 48 hours and 130.8 miles for 24 hours.This will be his six day coming out party.

Mark Dorion,46, El Paso,TX USA
          Last year Mark completed 318 miles in the Six day. Mark has been running 35 years, completing over 150 ultras. Bests include 131 miles for 24 hours, 5:55 for 50 miles, 7:36 for 100 km, and 2:27 for the marathon. He has twice attempted the Barkley Marathon in Tennesee, the toughest 100 miler in the world.

        Last year Bob reached 384 miles in his multiday debut.He   has run 32 ultras in 30 years of running. His best 24 hours was 119 miles(2003).

Dipali Cunningham,47, Melbourne, Australia
          Dipali is one of the world's best women ultra-distance runners. She has won 17 of the 20 multiday events she has entered since 1992, including four overall victories. In the spring of 2001 she set a new women's world record on the road for six days with 510 miles, defeating all the men in that race. In 2001 she ran 700 miles in 9 days 11 hours, the third fastest all-time for women. She has completed the 700 mile race eight times. In 1998 she set a   women's world best on the road for six-days with 504 miles, despite heavy rains at Wards Island Park. In 1999 she won the 700 mile race overall in 10 days, 21 hours. She is ranked third in the world for 700 miles, and third for 1000 miles, having dominated the women's 1000 mile race in 1997   in 13 days, 20 hours.   She has won all eight Six-Day titles in our spring-time event. In 2004,Dipali set a new women's age group 45-49 world best for six days with 479 miles.Later iin the fall, she won the 700 mile race overall, her eighth victory in that event.

Kaneenika Janakova,36,Bratislava,Slovakia
        In eleven years of running, Kaneenika has completed six multidays and 12 ultras. Her bests include   407 miles for six days, 700 miles in 10 days, 19 hours, and 1000 miles in 15 days, 19 hours. All three marks are Slovakian national records.  
   
Friederike Makowka,46, Geneva,Switerland
          In 2004r Friederike finished third in the Ten Day with 481 miles.Last year she ran 393 miles in the Six day. In 2003 she ran 340 miles for six days. She has run four multidays in ten years of running.

In 2000, Rimas astounded everyone with a world record of 16 days 00 hours in the 1300 miler, taking over 15 hours off the record as well as gaining the 2000 km world best. In 2001 he won the Ten Day race, running 901 miles for ten days, in the process passing 600 miles for six days, an Herculean feat. In 1999 he won the Six-day race with 517 miles, as well as running 954 miles in the fall 1300 miler. He holds the Lithuanian record for 100 km( 7:20)and has run the marathon in 2:35. He even ran the 3100 miler in 2002, completing the distance in 50 fays 2 hours.He has also won several shorter ultras in the New York area.

She is ranked third in the world for 700 miles, and third for 1000 miles, having dominated the women's 1000 mile race in 1997 in 13 days, 20 hours. She has won all seven Six-Day titles in our spring-time event.Last May, Dipali set a new women's age group 45-49 world best for six days with 479 miles.In the fall, she won the 700 mile race overall, her eighth victory in that event.

Stela will be running her first Six Day race. She has done 2 ultras in ten years of running.

Last year Friederike finished third in the Ten Day with 481 miles. In 2003 she ran 340 miles in the Six Day race. She has run four multidays in ten years of running.

Rupantar has been the race director of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team since 1985, having been asked by Sri Chinmoy to serve in that capacity. As well as working on the big races the US Marathon Team organise each year - the 3100 Mile Race and the Six and 10 Day Race - he also spends a considerable amount of time archiving the Marathon Team's 40 year history on this website.
