Coogee-Bondi-Coogee Coastal Trail Run is one of Sydney's best urban running routes and a favourite of mine for over twenty years. The running trail stretches from Bondi in the north to Maroubra in the south. I would generally skip going to Maroubra as I didn't like that section as much (or I was too tired).
When I lived in Sydney I would do this run every Saturday and sometimes again on Sunday. The great thing about Sydney weather is you can pretty much incorporate a swim into the equation year round although sometimes it got pretty cold.

The group I ran with, members of the Sydney Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, used to divide the run up into 5 stages:
Stage 1: Run from Coogee to Bondi 7km
Stage 2: Swim in Bondi
Stage 3: Run from Bondi to Coogee 7 km
Stage 4: Swim in Coogee
Stage 5: Breakfast in Coogee

The trail begins at the northern end of Coogee Beach and goes up hill onto the headland called Dunningham Park. After enjoying the great ocean views for about 300 metres you descend a fairly steep path into Gordon's Bay, a lovely little bay popular with scuba divers. Leaving Gordon's Bay you make a fairly steep but short climb up a boardwalk, then down some stairs (These are killer on the way back) and around the bend into Clovelly Beach, a sheltered inlet popular with families.

Coming out of Clovelly you again climb up a headland and then make your way through Waverly Cemetery, again with fabulous Pacific views as a back drop.

Next beach is Bronte which usually has pretty good surf and a good place for a drink. By-the-way there are numerous water and toilet stops along the way. Next beach on the agenda is Tamarama and you get a great view of the beach here because you are quite high.
Leaving Tamarama you are now heading for MacKenzies Point around which lies the fabled Bondi Beach. It is pretty much all downhill now so kick it in the last mile and enjoy a swim at Bondi. After cooling off you can get a drink and then head back to Coogee the same way.

Veeraja's Uppal - Australian Race Director reviews Coogee to Bondi
For a number years now I have heard about the fabled Coogee - Bondi - Coogee Run and looking at the recent postings and photos had only wet my appetite even more. So on my visit to Sydney last weekend I was determined to see for myself how good it really was.

On Saturday with two of my good friend from the Centre, Mark and Nigel, I set off on this famous runners pilgrimage. It really was a delight. My favorite section was the trails overlooking the ocean between Clovelly and Bronte, the views are really something. The mandatory swim in the cool waters of Bondi was also very invigorating.

However be warned, this run is not for the fainthearted and I was surprised by how step some of these sections were. Regular running on this path would certainly keep you honest. It is a really good test of running condition which has lapsed since the marathon in New York last August.
