DECATUR - More records fell as the 100m and 800m finals highlighted day 3 at the USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Decatur, Illinois.

Audry Lary of Frederick, Md., leaped 8.09m/26-6.50 to set a world W70 record in the women's triple jump. The 70-year-old bettered the previous record of 7.87m/25-10 set in 1999 by Shirley Peterson of New Zealand.

Suzie MacLeod ran 3:13.90 to set an American W70 age group record to finish in the second in the 800m. The 70-year-old bettered the previous record of 3:20.71 set in 1998 by Sumiye Leonard of California. Jean Horne of Canada won the 800m in a world record time of 3:05.51.

Kathy Martin of Northport, N.Y. ran 37:12.23 to set W50 record in the 10,000m finals. The 52-year-old Martin bettered the 37:28.67 set in 1992 by Shirley Matson of California. Other winners from the 10,000m finals were Desiree Love (W40-51:19.03), Joyce Hodges-Hite (W65-1:03:10.96) and Lois Gilmore (W70-57:53.45).

Tina Bowman of Long Beach, Calif., set a W50 age group record with her 30.56m/100-3 performance in the women's javelin throw. The 51-year-old Bowman bettered the previous record of 28.67m/94-0 set in 2000 by Phil Raschker of Georgia. Sharon Raham of Wellington, Colo., set a W55 record after she threw 26.53m/87-0 to win. The 58-year-old bettered the previous record of 23.38m/76-8.50 set in 2003 by Dorothy Cruyssen.

In the 800m finals that came down to the finish line, Antoine Batiste of Huntsville, Ala., ran 1:59.50 to win the M30 age group. The 31-year-old Batiste held off a late surge by runner-up Kyle Lanier of Lincoln University who finished in 1:59.89. Chris Yorges of Eugene, Ore., won the M35 age group in 2:03.32 barely edging runner-up Jonathan Mann of Mountain Lakes, N.J., (M35-2:03.51). Jim Robinson of Rochester, N.Y., won in a time of 2:05.13. The 50-year-old Robinson beat Dave Clingan of Portland, Ore., who finished second with a time of 2:05.25 in the M50 age group.

Jeff Culpepper of Houston, Texas ran 10.76 seconds to clock the fastest time by any male in the 100m finals. The 31-year-old Culpepper held off Alex Acosta of Miami, Fla., who finished in 10.99 seconds in the M30 age group. Barney Borromeo of Middleboro, Mass., and (M35-11.17) pulled ahead of All-American Robert Thomas, Jr. (M35-11.34) to win the M35 age group. Bill Collins of Houston, Texas ran 11.48 seconds to win the M50 age group. The 53-year-old Collins held off a late surge by runner-up Billy "White Shoes," Johnson of Flowery Branch, Ga., (M50-11.67).

In the women's 100m finals, Lesia Batiste of Baton Rouge, La., ran 13.05 seconds to edge runner-up Joy Upshaw-Margerum of Berkeley, Calif., (W40-13.07) in the W40 age group. Colleen Barney of Newport Beach, Calif., held on to win the W35 age group with her 13.36 performance. The 37-year-old Barney edged runner-up Kisha Carman of Fort Wayne, Ind., (W35-13.45) and Lori Schutt of Yorkville, Ill., (W35-13.55) in third.

In the women's 800m finals, Lorraine Jasper of Birchrunville, Pa., ran 2:22.06 to win and barely edge runner-up Terri Cassel of Tulsa, Okla., who finished in a time of 2:22.84.

In the men's 10,000m finals, the M60 age group was highly contested as Doug Goodhue of Milford, Mich., pulled away to win in a time of 37:16.11 followed by runner-up Bill Borla of Torrington, Conn., (37:19.67) and Don Coffman of Stamping Ground, Ky., (37:28.00) in third-place. Brian Pope of Oxford, Miss., ran 32:23.92 to clock the fastest time from all age groups to win the M40 title.

Other 10,000m winners were Alan Gerstle (M30-36:07.44), Eric Coffman (M35-33:18.98), Eric Putnam (M45-32:58.16), Thomas Deming (M50-37:24.30), Donald Loewe (M55-38:44.58), Thom Weddle (M65-41:51.81), Bill Iffrig (M70-42:03.30) and Jerry Johncock (M75-49:03.37).

Other 100m winners were Denise McField (W45-13.75), Karla Del Grande (W50-13.13), Brenda Matthews (W55-14.62), Kathy Jager (W60-14.44), Barbara Jordan (W65-16.38), Audry Lary (W70-16.21), Patricia Peterson (W75-18.96), Carol Peebles (W80-25.16) and Olga Kotelko (W85-22.70). Other winners in the men's 100m finals were Allan Tissenbaum (M40-11.16), James Chinn (M45-11.97), Stan Whitley (M55-11.98), Stephen Robbins (M60-12.17), Bob Lida (M65-12.97), Lloyd Williams (M70-13.80), Bill Melville (M75-14.81), Melvin Larsen (M80-15.00) and Roderick Parker (M85-16.22).

In the men's high jump finals, Barry Kline of Washington, Pa., cleared 1.53m/5-0.25 to beat runner-up Ken Winters of Overland Park, Kan., (M60-1.52m/4-11.75) and John Burns of Lafayette, Calif., (M60-1.52m/4-11.25). Tom Langenfeld of Edina, Minn., cleared 1.47m/4-9.75 to win and barely edge 65-year-old Emil Pawlik (M65-1.42m/4-7.75) in the M65 age group of the high jump. Other high jump winners were Walden Curry (1.67m/5-5.75), Al Gabbard (M55-1.62m/5-3.75), James Stookey (M70-1.27m/4-2), William Wambach (M75-1.25m/4-1.25), Ralph Maxwell and Raoul Rodriques tied (1.17m/3-10) and Leland McPhie (M90-0.97m/3-2.25).

Mike Curry of Sacramento, Calif., threw 37.99m/124-7 to win the M35 age group hammer throw (7.26K) finals. The 37-year-old Curry held off runner-up Dan Bobltz of Ortonville, Mich., (M35-37.50m/123-0). Other winners from the men's hammer throw finals include David Senay (M30-47.56m/156-0), Tim Shannon (M40-43.89m/144-0) and Ken Jansson (M45-52.26m/171-5).

Cherrie Sherrard of Vallejo, Calif., highlighted a competitive discus throw finals to win the W65 age group. The 65-year-old Sherrard threw 19.88m/65-2.75 to beat runner-up Ann Flynn of West Port, Conn., (W65-19.84m/65-1.25) and Patricia Beam of Caledonia, Ill., (W65-19.79m/64-11.25) who finished third. In the W60 age group, Georgia Cutler of Eugene, Ore., threw 22.74m/74-7.25 to win a close discus throw finals followed by runner-up Marianne Neuber (W60-22.60m/74-1.75) and third-place finisher Margery Swinton (W60-22.38m/73-5.25).

Other discus throw winners were Audry Lary (W70-21.75m/71-4.25), Bernice Holland (W75-18.16m/59-7) and Olga Kotelko (W85-14.25m/46-9). The men's discus throw (1K) winners were Bob Ward (M70-43.56-142-11), Jim Gerhardt (35.51m/116-6), Bill Carter (M80-29.73m/97-6), David Schlothauer (M85-20.34m/66-8.75) and Leland McPhie (M90-16.40m/53-9.75).

Other men's 800m winners were John Hinton (M40-1:57.05), Steve Gallegos (M45-2:00.52), Nolan Shaheed (M55-2:08.07), Larry Barnum (M60-2:18.83), Sid Howard (M65-2:21.14), Charles Rose (M70-2:32.39), Earl Fee (M75-2:37.68), Daniel Bulkley (M85-4:13.49) and Max Springer (M90-4:43.82).

Other women's 800m winners were Lisa Klein (W30-2:32.58), Mimi Key (W45-2:30.09), Denise Janneck (W50-2:38.25), Linda Piff (W55-3:00.96), Jeanne Daprano (W65-3:18.41) and Gerry Davidson (W80-5:26.96).

Other triple jump winners were Regina Richardson (W35-10.90m/35-9.25), Caren Ware (W40-8.94m/29-4), Liz Johnson (W45-7.13m/23-4.75), Anna Wlodarczyk (W50-10.13m/33-3), Hillen Stubendorff (W55-8.06m/26-5.50), Ann Carter (W60-6.07m/19-11) and Barbara Jordan (W65-6.88m/22-7).

Glen Turner of Warner Robins, Ga., endured a competitive field to win the triple jump M50 age group with his 10.82m/35-6 performance. Bob Rockwell of Taylors, S.C. finished second (M50-10.59m/34-9) followed by Bobby Terrell of Tampa, Fla., (M50-10.44m/34-3) in third-place.

Other triple winners were Roland Brent (M30-12.23m/40-1.50), Henderson Benjamin (M35-13.42m/44-0.50), Brian Coushay (M40-12.57m/41-3), Marcus Battle (M45-12.39m/40-7.75), Larry Rodenbeck (M55-11.44m/37-6.50), Ken Winters (M60-10.05m/32-11.75), Bob Paulen (M65-8.92m/29-3.25), James Stookey (M70-9.22m/30-3), Paul Bambrook (M75-8.29m/27-2.50), Tom Kennell (M80-7.09m/23-3.25) and Max Springer (M90-4.72m/15-6).

The 47-year-old Carol Finsrud had the best mark by any woman in the javelin throw after her 33.23m/109-0 performance to win the W45 age group. Other winners in the javelin throw (600G) were Jacqueline Nasca (W30-23.79m/78-0.75), Kelly Thompson (W35-16.88m/55-4.75) and Laura Charewicz (W40-33.20m/108-11). The men's javelin throw (600G) winners were John Burns (M60-45.66m/149-10) and Fred Pamenter (M65-41.24m/135-4).

In the men's shot put (6K) the winners include Ron Summers (M50-16.56m/54-4) and Craig Shumaker (M55-14.98m/49-1.75).

The men's pole vault winners were Michael Fontana (M30-3.95m/12-11.50), Bryan Carrel (M35-4.40m/14-5.25), Jonathan Bartos (M40-4.40m/14-5.25) and Gary Hunter (M45-4.55m/14-11).
