The Course
A scenic, flat and fast 2.95-mile paved pathway around Rockland Lake, accurately measured USATF certified loop. The Midnight Marathon is a Boston Qualifier, and consists of an initial 2.62-mile partial lap followed by 8 full laps. The Sunset Half-Marathon consists of an initial 1.31-mile out-and-back section, followed by 4 full laps.
Runners in the 12 & 24-Hour will travel the loop clockwise. Counterclockwise for the Midnight Marathon, and Sunset Half.
The entire loop is in good shape - smooth, flat, no bumps, cracks or potholes. About 50% of the course is shaded, 50% exposed. Race-Day Central, 12-Hour & 24-Hour start, Sunset Half-Marathon start/finish, Midnight Marathon finish are near Parking Field #5. NEW in 2026: Midnight Marathon start is about 7 minutes walk SOUTH of Race-Day Central, near Parking Field #4.Records: 24-Hour: Women: Christina Friedman 106.10 miles (2023), Men: Michael Degeorge 137.92 miles (2023).
12-Hour: Women: Erica Bash 64.84 miles (2022), Men: David Law 79.58 miles (2024).
Midnight Marathon: Women: Mariah Donovan 3:28:09 (2023), Men: Yoseph Levin 2:55:16 (2025)TIMING / Lap Counting
Timing and lap counting will be done with RaceResult chip timing, with a separate manual but semi-computerized backup system. Please ensure your race bib is visible on the front of your torso (not your side, leg, back etc.) each time you pass the counting station and aid stations 1 & 2. If you would like to avoid making safety pin holes in your jacket or top, use of a bib belt is recommended ($10 on Amazon).
We will have a lap announcer on microphone the entire 24 hours.
Note: The two aid stations on the loop are measured and certified from the start point, and in the last 30 minutes of both the 12-Hour and 24-Hour races, runners stopping at these points can receive credit for the extra distance, in case they do not complete a full final loop before the race ends. In order to receive credit, you must inform the volunteer at the aid station that you are finishing. Aid Station 1 = +1.1907 miles, Aid Station 2 = +2.3760 miles
For runners in any race that are finishing early, please inform the lap counting staff at the end of your final lap.
Hydration / Food / Snacks
There will be one well-stocked main aid station in the race staging area, and two basic aid stations along the loop (near mile 1 and mile 2 points) with water and Skratch Hydration only.
All food and snacks are for registered runners only - helpers will need to bring their own.
Beginning in 2026, the food available at the main aid station will be limited to: PB&J sandwiches, miso soup, rice, baked potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, watermelon, bananas. Please self-supply your favorite goodies if they're not on the list above!Food will be prepared off-site and brought to the race. We are unable to customize meals, prepare anything specific, or re-heat food.
There are several groceries and delis within a mile or two of the park. Old World Food Market is an excellent, large and well-stocked grocery store with hot and cold food bars located a little further away - about 10 minutes from the park, near the junction of 9W and I287. Open 8am-9pm daily. Other than the small food mart at the Shell station about 5 min. away, we are not aware of anything nearby open overnight.
Alcohol is strictly prohibited in the park.
Participant Rest Areas
You can set up your own rest area on the grass along either side of the pathway, anywhere PAST (NORTH of) the lap counting station, and before the restroom. There is plenty of room to spread out.
Tables, chairs and tents are not provided, you will need to bring your own. There are some picnic tables dotting the area. This area is exposed to the sun and rain, canopies / pop-up tents are allowed but with a maximum size of 10' x 10', and must be secured to the ground. If you are attaching sidewalls, one side must be left off - one side completely open, to be clear. Camping tents, changing tents, and any type of tent that is designed to be fully enclosed are strictly not allowed, even if they are left open - there is no camping permitted in the park, and the park officials are strict about not allowing totally enclosable tents of any description (for real - they come check!).
RVs are no longer allowed in the park, day or night.
Helpers / Crew
Visitors and helpers / race crew are most welcome (the more the merrier!), but please keep in mind they must provide their own food and snacks - the main aid station is strictly for runners.
Also there is strictly no pacing allowed - runners may not be accompanied for any portion of any lap.Restrooms
There are three restrooms along the course: One at parking field 5 about 200 meters past Race-Day Central, one at parking field 6 (newly remodeled - nice!), and one at parking field 3. All have running water, and have motion sensor lights at night. No showers.
Medical
Medical personnel will be present on-site during the entire race, for emergencies only. (No massages, etc.)
Runners exhibiting medical issues may be required to drop out of the race, at the discretion of the on-duty race director and / or medical personnel. These decisions are for your own safety, and are final.
Nighttime Safety Measures
- NEW FOR 2026: There will be several hundred simple small LED battery lanterns, or "luminaries", lining the course all the way around the lake. Headlamps are optional. If you do use one, please use the dimmest setting, and point the beam DOWN so as to avoid blinding oncoming runners. which leads to the next point:
- 12/24 runners will run the loop clockwise. Half/Full Marathoners will run counterclockwise. This way, runners will pass each other every minute or two.
- Aid stations 1 and 2 will be staffed overnight and will serve as additional checkpoints.
- A cyclist will circle the course continuously from sundown (approx 8:30PM) until sunup (approx 5:30AM)
- A park police vehicle will patrol the park overnight, special for our event.
- The park is closed overnight, with the exception of those involved with our event - runners, race staff and volunteers, runner helpers.

DIRECTIONS / NEARBY LODGING
Directions
Rockland Lake State Park is about 45 min North of NYC, off the NY State Thruway (Rt I-87). There is no public transportation to the park.
Please read through these instructions completely before starting your drive:
Rockland Lake State Park is a big park, by far the easiest way to navigate to Race-Day Central is to start out by using this google map link which will take you to the northern park entrance off of Route 9W (at Lake Road). Alternatively, you can enter the following address into any GPS, which will take you very close to the same park entrance:
962 S Route 9W, Congers, NY 10920
Then, immediately after turning into the park, make your first right turn towards Parking Field 5. Follow the road down for 1 mile (pass Parking Field 6), Parking Field 5 will be on your left. Race-Day Central southeast of the parking lot, next to the lake loop pathway.
Please note that the southern entrance to the park off of Route 9W is also at "Lake Road" (we know... it's totally confusing), that's why we recommend using the link or address above, then follow the written directions the last mile.
You can also click this link for the exact location of the race staging area in Google maps, however if you are driving from points south of Rockland Lake, most GPSs will try to take you through the southern park entrance off of Route 9W, and the road leading to Parking Field 5 from this entrance is CLOSED.
DO NOT type "Rockland Lake State Park" into your GPS, you'll end up in the wrong part of the park at the north end of the lake, 1-1/2 miles away from the race!
IMPORTANT: you must enter any parking lot inside the park BEFORE 8AM or AFTER 5PM to avoid being charged the $10 NYS Parks imposed vehicle fee. If you leave the parking area and re-enter between 8AM-5PM, you will be charged $10. Keep your receipt for continued in / out privileges for the day.
If Parking Field 5 is full, backtrack (drive North) 3/4 mile to Parking Field 6. (Allow 10 minutes to walk back to Race-Day Central)
Lodging
Green Inn Motel on the Lake 845.268.6836 is the closest accomodation, a very basic budget motel a mere quarter-mile north of the park entrance. (note: they rarely answer their phone, but usually have rooms available)
West Gate Inn Nyack 845.358.8100 is about 4 miles south of the park, approx $130 for a double.
There are a few other options in the Rockland Lake area, but please check the overall rating and read reviews carefully before booking! If any of the previous information above needs updating, please let us know.
Please note: There is strictly no camping in the park. No RVs allowed in the park, day or night.
Carpooling
Those who don't have a car and need a ride and those who do have a car and wouldn't mind an extra passenger to help pay the gas & tolls and to reduce per capita emissions, could consider signing up to 511RideShare's carpool service which will match you with others who are going to the same place at the same time as you are.
Kindly note, the carpool service is operated by 511RideShare under terms set by 511RideShare and the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team assumes no liability or responsibility in connection therewith.
