INDIANAPOLIS - Andrew Bumbalough has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning in record breaking fashion Saturday at the 2004 Foot Locker Cross Country South Regional Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bumbalough, of Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.), ran 14 minutes, 32 seconds to win and better the course record of 14:43 set by 2004 Olympic Trials 1,500m champion Alan Webb.
In other action, led by Nicole Blood (Gansevoort, N.Y.), four girls from Saratoga Springs High School (N.Y.) qualified for the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship National Finals. Only one other high school has had as many as three qualifiers in one year.
Now in its fourth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
Congratulations from the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team!
